Watch for the Wolves, Little Red

At a young age my parents introduced me to a little tale. Ever since then Little Red Riding Hood has been my favorite. I had books and stuffed dolls. One doll was a topsy turvy. On one end was Little Red, she was perfect with her red cape, braids and dainty face. When you turned her upside down the doll transformed into the loving Grandmother with her spectacles and bed cap. When you lifted grandmother's cap up and over her face, the wolf was there. He was gray and had yellow eyes with sharp pointed teeth. I spent hours playing with that doll. In the woods outside our home, I was Little Red and I was taking a basket to my Grandma Hasek.

The tale of Little Red has such an important lesson. Girls, watch out for the wolves because they are out there. They will hurt you and those you love. Stay on the path and don't ever leave it. Listen to your parents and loved ones. Be cautious and wise to what is around you. And if you find yourself in trouble after falling to temptation, (because flowers are so lovely) there is hope. But while wolves are out there, hope is also out there. Heroes still exist. Let them lift you out of the belly of sadness and hopelessness.

And always, always, always wear red. Be who you are, but be smart.

  1. Well Carrie, you and I should live in the color red. We mostly stay on the path but I'd put us down as wanderers and our heroes will never find us without the red. :)

    1. Very true. Without us in 'red' we would never be found. I'm glad we are who we are. I'm glad we were able to beat those wolves and find our heroes.

  2. Great tale and great lesson. See you do teach your parents things. I never thought of that fairy tale in this light. Wow, you are amazing. You should be teaching the young women of the world with all you insights. And you would make the lessons fun and believable. I stand amazed at you, as always. Talk about a hero! You are mine.

    1. Oh, Mommy, you are my hero forever and always. Without you and Dad, I would never have the lessons you taught me. You filled my little word with such joy and color, and even a little spookiness which I have come to love so much. I hope I have been for my children as you have been for me.

Thank you for supporting me always <3

  3. I love your topsy turvy doll with a wolf under grandma's cap. What a wonderful doll. Do you still have it? I just made a paper puppet lego man inspired by that kind of doll. Yes, I love fairytales and folktales. There is so much meaning in them and lessons to be learned. Stories make you remember the important thing. And yes, always wear red!!!!

    1. Thanks so much, Melissa! Yes, I still own my Little Red. I saw your paper puppet lego man and I have to say my little boys were actually excited about a paper doll! Have you ever made a Little Red Ridding Hood and the wolf? :)
